A recent research project hit the news when they published results that seemed to indicate that the Atkins Diet was the most effective of those tested.
They didn't test every one of today's most popular diets. That would of taken an extended period of time if you consider all the diets that might be on the list:
The 3-Hour Diet, Ann Fletcher's Thin for Life, The Atkins Diet, Body for Life, the Dr. Andrew Weil diet, The New Beverly Hills Diet, The Perricone Diet, The Personality Type Diet, The Pritikin Principle, Protein Power, Slim-Fast, The Sonoma Diet, the South Beach Diet, Dr. Dean Ornish, The Zone, Dr. Phil's Ultimate Weight Solution, Eat Right for Your Type, Jenny Craig and Living Low-Carb ... to mention just a few.
If you take a close look you will find that most are high protein low carbohydrate diets on that list. Those plans are easy understand. When you exercise your body burns carbs before it burns fat. This simply means that if you have a lot of carbohydrates in your body you'll have to exercise longer to lose weight.
To minimize your bodies carbs you must eat fewer foods that are high in carhohydrates like bread, pasta and sugar. Those are energy boosting foods, so you may feel sluggish after dropping them from your diet. The good news that if you stick with the diet you body will adjust and your feeling of energy will return.
Low Carb Benefits
Medical diet specialist aren't sure whether the benefits of a low carb type of diet outweigh the harm it can cause to your health. There are risks associated with a low carb diet, include kidney failure and heart-disease.
Low carb diets often include generous portions of things like pork, beef and eggs. That type of eating can result in unhealthy levels of cholesterol.
You also must monitor your body for vitamin deficiencies, because certain fruits and grains are limited in many of these diets.
Once you begin you must continue to limit your consumption of high carbohydrate foods. That's the only way to not only lose pounds, but to keep that weight from returning.
No White Flour
A low carb diet eliminates foods made with white flour and sugar. The good news is that you can continue to eat the variety you like in more reasonable portions.
This may be a healthier alternative too because foods that are high in protein and low in carbs, like bacon and eggs, have much fewer health benefits than a salad and a piece of fruit.
The most effective diets tend to be those that allow you to eat and engage in activities that you enjoy. This is important to remember when deciding if you want to take the high protein low carbohydrate diet as an alternative to a low calorie diet.
