Did you know that the words "low carb" and "carb wise" or "carb fit" are actually marketing terms. Those words were probably created by advertising agencys manufacturers to sell food products. You buy low-carb foods believing that they're good for your health. Sorry, but that isn't necessarily the case.
Here's an example, in your local super market you can pick up low-carb cakes and cookies. Those items are often high in fat and calories and are certainly not health foods. Get this: one so-called low-carb nutrition bar can have 12 grams of total fat, 6 grams saturated fat and 240 calories. Uck!
So how do you know if a lowcarb menus are safe for you? How do you avoid suffering from low card diet side effects. Obviously going to a doctor would be the first step, preferably a family doctor that knows your history as.
With an assessment and a look into your family health history then your doctor should be able to give you better direction into your low carb dieting goals.
What kind of information will help you assess whether a low carb diet is safe for you? Take notes of your LDL cholesterol, triglycerides, total cholesterol level, HDL cholesterol, blood pressure, etc. These are all very important when assessing your low carb plan.
Why? Because people metabolize carbohydrates in different ways and some carbs are beneficial while others are harmful to your health.
Collect information about your family history, mainly your immediate family like your brothers, your sisters, parents and children. Every disease and surgery should be recorded as well as any chronic diseases.
Once you have collected this information about your immediate family then move on to your extended family like your aunts, uncles, and grandparents. The more information that you provide to your family doctor the better he or she can help you determine if a low carb diet is safe for you.
Above all, watch out for diabetes. Diabetes affects more than 15 million Americans and could be very dangerous for you to partake in a low carb diet. As always, please consult a physician or doctor before practicing any diet or exercise regimen.
